Technologies: extrusion, stamping, CNC
Materials: steel, aluminium
Planned production volume: 25 000 units
Operating conditions: from -40 to 85°C, IP52 (in a vertical orientation with the antenna connectors facing upwards)
My role: design engineer, industrial designer
Time spent on the project: 95 h.
Project duration: 14 mo.
A metal enclosure with heat dissipation functionality, some protection against water ingress, and a non-complicated battery replacement
What's this?
This device is an onboard telecommunications terminal installed on vehicles to transmit signals between cars, roadside infrastructure elements, and the intelligent transportation system.
What kind of signals are these? For example, real-time high-precision vehicle coordinates, direction and speed of movement, internal status of onboard systems, and more. The device also receives similar information from surrounding vehicles and roadside infrastructure, including traffic light operation modes and potential hazards along the route.
All this helps improve road safety (warning and prevention of accidents if calculated vehicle trajectories intersect) and enhances traffic efficiency (optimal speed for crossing intersections, etc.)
Brief summary of the work done: a client had a board that could not be modified. It was necessary to design an enclosure for it, according to the requirements
